René, your French pilot with the ready smile and amazing technical know how. Is well placed to guide you through your cruise. as he was born locally in Sete, the “Little Venice” of the Midi from a long line of boat people. His grandfather was a Cape Horner in the 1900’s and he has had a boat from a very early age.

An engineer by trade he was the master planner when Emma was bought in 2000 and the majority of the transformation was down to him  so you can rest assured that the smooth running of the barge is in competent hands.

René’s wife Liz is your Irish chef and she has embraced the Mediterranean cuisine with enthusiasm. Emma has built her reputation on the excellence of the food and wines served aboard.Liz is a graduate form an Irish Catering college but has also spent time in a French Relais Chateau just to keep up to date with new cooking trends. Liz loves sharing recipes and ideas with her guests over a glass of wine and her kitchen is always open . Her philosophy is to buy the best of ingredients, locally produced, fresh from the market, in season and then to cook them with flair and imagination so that the flavor will live up to the presentation.  You can have your cake and eat it!

There are 2 other crew members aboard. Your hostess to look after all your needs and make your stay aboard comfortable.  Your driver/ tour guide who will take you out in the mini bus each day and share all the local folklore and culture.  When choosing crew members, Liz and René place great importance on people who are interesting, knowledgeable, friendly and who know when you want some quiet and when you want to be entertained.
